And the Oscar goes to… Shine’s 5 favourite hairstyles from this year’s red carpet

Forget who wins what, for us the Oscars is ALL about the glamour of the red carpet- particularly the hair, of course. And this year’s Academy Awards was no different. So we asked Veronica from our team to pick her favourite looks from the night…

margot.jpg

Margot Robbie

I love this shorter bob on Margot, bluntly cut in one length and styled with soft waves using straighteners. Teamed with her sun-kissed colour, it really helps to show off her stunning Chanel gown. (We predict Margot's new look will be much requested in the salon!)

Saiorse.jpg

Saoirse Ronan

Another star who chose the Awards to debut a new shorter length, Saoirse’s bluntly cut chin length bob may be understated, but it’s so, so chic. Styled in a centre parting and tucked behind her ears it’s sophisticated, while still managing to look fresh and just a bit edgy. It’s an easy to wear, low maintenance look- and the cut would work well worn in a modern messy style too.

Greta.jpg

Greta Gerwig

Greta’s softly highlighted asymmetric crop has been styled in wide finger waves- the epitome of classic Hollywood, but with a modern twist. The cropped style keeps it sleek and removes any bulk. Just gorgeous.

Laura.jpg

Laura Dern

Showing us all how old school glamour should be done, Laura’s timeless Veronica Lake inspired look, with a deep side parting and soft full waves created with tongs is pure class. And I love the auburn hues she has working through her hair.

Lupita.jpg

Lupita Nyong’o

Never afraid to experiment with her style, Lupita is always a favourite with the fashion pack- and this look was no exception. The amazing gold laced braids, woven into her updo and wrapped around her crown, make it a real scene stealer.

Mum’s the Word

Stuck for ideas for Mother’s Day (Sunday 11th March)? There’s still time to organise something to show a mum in your life just how fabulous you think she is.

- Right up there on our wish list would be a candle subscription from Sussex based SevenSeventeen. Buy her a three or six month subscription and she’ll get one of their gorgeous luxury candles delivered to her door every month.

- All mums deserve a pamper! Treat her to a gift voucher from us here at Shine and she can spend it on any of our services or products. Starting at £20, gift vouchers are available to buy online or in the salon.

- If in doubt, you can’t go wrong with flowers, and our friends at Go Botanica create truly stunning bouquets. Keep it seasonal and go for tulips, hyacinths or narcissi.

This month, we’re loving…

If you’re a fan of Scandi-noir, give Before We Die (All 4) a go. This compelling Swedish thriller has it all- gripping storyline, strong female lead and an edge of your seat car chase involving an ageing Volvo estate (what else?). It will fill the hole in your life left by The Bridge.

That's it for this month from all of us at Shine. Book your next appointment with us online, by email or phone. Hope to see you in the salon soon!
